Gutters are the cheapest part of the exterior and they cause a disproportionate share of the expensive damage. We install, repair and replace them across Clifton and North Jersey, usually as part of roof work rather than on their own.
Why This Sits Next to Roofing
A gutter that does not carry water away puts it somewhere else, and that somewhere is normally the fascia, the roof edge, the siding, or the foundation. By the time a homeowner calls about a soft fascia board or staining down a brick wall, the gutter has usually been failing for a couple of seasons. When we tear a roof off we are already at the roof edge, which is why gutters frequently get handled on the same visit.
How Gutters Actually Fail
Pitch goes wrong and water stands. Seams open. Hangers pull loose from a fascia that has softened. Downspouts discharge next to the foundation instead of away from it. And in North Jersey the specific seasonal problem is ice: water backs up at the eave, freezes, and lifts shingles from underneath. A gutter packed with debris makes ice damming worse rather than causing it outright.

What We Do About It
We look at pitch, hangers, seams and where the water ends up, then tell you whether it is a repair or a replacement run. If the fascia behind the gutter has gone soft, that gets addressed first, because hanging new gutter on bad wood just resets the clock.
Alongside the Roof
If you are already having a roof replaced, doing gutters at the same time is cheaper than a separate mobilization later, and the roof edge detail comes out cleaner when both are new. We will say so when that applies and leave it alone when it does not.
How This Plays Out on Real Houses
Bev's review on our Google profile walks through the exact sequence this page describes: snow froze on her roof, water backed up into the house, we were out the next day in the freezing cold to deal with it, and after the thaw we replaced her gutters. The leak and the gutters were the same problem, and fixing one without the other would have set up a repeat next winter.
Steve's review covers the repair side: we repaired his gutters, did additional work at no charge to make sure everything functioned properly, and used materials he judged better than the originals. That is what the fascia check is about. Hanging a new run on wood that has gone soft looks fine from the driveway and fails by the second season.

When to Deal With It
The honest window is before the water shows up inside. If your gutters overflowed last winter, or you can see daylight between the gutter and the fascia, book the inspection now rather than after the next freeze. The inspection is free and covers the roof edge and the drainage together, because in this climate they fail together.

What Homeowners Say on Google
5.0 average rating
“I used Four Season Construction to replace my roof. Ben the owner was very clear on the roofing process, Ben is also the owner. A small company but hands on. During the project Ben took pictures of the process and kept me informed throughout the day. I was at work when the roof was installed. The job was well done, cleaned entire property and collected all the nails. I highly recommend this company.”
“Love their work!! Very professional. I would give them a call for estimates if its ur first time,, but to me theyre my go to from now on.”

How a Job Actually Runs
You reach out
Call (862) 318-3997 or send the form. We do not need the whole story up front, just the address and what you are seeing.
Free inspection
We come out and look at the roof. The inspection is free and there is no obligation either way.
We photograph what we find
A photo of a cracked boot or a rusted valley settles the question faster than a paragraph, so you see the roof rather than hear about it.
Written itemized estimate
The material tier and the decking allowance are broken out as their own numbers, so you can change any of them before you sign.
The work
We tear off rather than lay over on almost every house, because a layover means nobody ever looks at the deck. Bad boards get replaced as we find them and photographed one at a time.
After the job
Decking is billed against the allowance written into the contract before anyone climbed a ladder, and the work carries a 2-year workmanship warranty with a 50-year manufacturer warranty on the material.
Where We Work From
Every crew rolls out of the shop at 38 Speer Ave in Clifton, just off Route 3 by the Garden State Parkway exits 153 to 155, with Route 46 and Route 21 minutes away. That keeps most of Passaic, Bergen, and Essex County an easy run, and the service area stretches into Union, Somerset, and Warren County towns as well.
The company is registered with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs as a home improvement contractor, NJ HIC #13VH11720500, and installs GAF and Owens Corning product lines.
Questions We Get Asked
Can you repair gutters or does it have to be a full replacement?
Both are common. Reseating a run, resealing seams and re-pitching are real repairs. If the fascia behind it has softened, that gets dealt with first, because new gutter on bad wood fails again.
Do gutters cause ice dams?
Not on their own, but a debris-packed gutter makes one worse. Ice damming is water backing up at the eave and freezing, which lifts shingles from underneath, a North Jersey winter regular.
Should I do gutters at the same time as the roof?
Usually yes if the roof is coming off anyway. We are already at the roof edge, so it avoids a second mobilization and the edge detail comes out cleaner.
What about water pooling near the foundation?
That is normally a downspout discharging too close to the house. It is one of the cheaper fixes on the exterior and one of the more expensive things to ignore.
